about
When I woke up this morning at 6am, in Linz, Austria, Alberta had elected Rachel Notley as the new Premier, and the Wild Rose as opposition. After a long walk through the town core to the river Danau, I sat in the hotel cafe, eating my complimentary breakfast, reading the news and bursting with optimism and pride for my province. We have woken up, we have created the opportunity to make a real change.
I have been working on this guitar part for a few months, waiting for the words to arrive, and today they did! I recorded this track shortly after breakfast, just before checking out. There is a beautiful open vestibule entrance outside my room, and the acoustics begged to be recorded. Birds singing outside the window. Housekeeping getting to work in the background. :)
As I write this I smell spring blossoms. It is humid and raining. The noon bells are ringing. I head to Cultur Cafe Smaragd shortly, to set up for my show tonight. Tonight's set will be Provincial Patriotism- themed. ;)
PS- not all the songs I do will be this low-fi. Also, I just found out I got a Rawlco Radio grant to record another album, so I am planning to start the pre-production on this voyage. Yay!
lyrics
This is a song for the Motherland
You go with me wherever I am
In this old heart I feel you like Everyman
Travel the sea, travel in the sky
I am the whale, I am the firefly
You find me, no matter what shape I am
Singing, I am singing, I am singing for the love
Singing, I am singing, I am singing for the love
You are the horizon line, I line myself up to
Across the world, I am still parallel to you
This is a song for the Motherland
You go with me wherever I am
And in my heart I feel you like Everyman
