Tear It Down (Start All Over) demo

about

This song actually began in Edmonton, watching the workers from my kitchen window as I ate my breakfast, feeling dubious about how much time I spent doing work that actually Looked like work, since they had a clear view of me from their workplace. I could see them every time they took a coffee/smoke break... I've concluded we are just as productive, though in different ways, for sure!

I workshopped this song while in Berlin, staying in a friend's loft apt. I have tweaked the melody and lyrics a bit, refined the guitar part. I like this one a lot, I get goosebumps every time I play it live, and people seem to really like it.

I've completed about half my shows so far! It's crazy how time passes here, traveling, without a real tether to the rest of the world, the rest of my regular life. I keep watching for news on the Alberta Gov't and I like where things are going there, but it's hard to feel a part of it.

Maybe that is why this song resonates for me so much right now. Starting over. I like the idea that Alberta is starting over, and I like feeling that I am opening a new chapter in my life by being here in Europe!

lyrics

People watching, are you working
Where does the time go when it comes to nothing
I can see how you're progressing
Building up the window dressing

I am more inclined to tear it down (down down)
And start all over

Overthinking - that doesn't serve me
It is a poor maid, always on a coffee break
I can see through and comprehend you
What can you teach me

It's a see-saw life and you can't nail it down (down down)
And start all over

Old Mother Nature - how goes the proverb
She giveth the bread and then she taketh
She stills the earth and then she quaketh
Still life is just what you make it

And if you don't like what you have made
Then tear it down down down
And start all over
